Goulds 3196 shaft dimensions by frame

The 5 Goulds 3196 power ends, ST, MT, LT, XLT and X17, with the journals, bearings, seal sleeve seat, coupling end, bearing span and overhang each replacement shaft is dimensioned to, as the matching catalog part loads into the configurator.

The 3196 frame is the power end: ST, MT, LT and XLT, and the X17 for the 17-inch sizes. The frame fixes the shaft; the hydraulic size does not, so identify the frame first, from the nameplate or from the bearings in the first table.

Journal diameters and bearing numbers come from the bearing-fit and bearing-type tables in the Goulds i-FRAME installation manual; sleeve, coupling, span and overhang from the Construction Details in the brochure. Both journals are cut to the k5 bearing-seat fit, the light interference the manual specifies for a rotating inner ring. The X17 coupling diameter and key, bearing span and overhang are not in the published tables and are marked est. in the second table: estimated by ANSI analogy; confirm against your shaft.

The threaded impeller nose on each catalog part is representative, sized under the impeller register, because Goulds does not publish the thread. Every dimension stays editable in the configurator and the drawing title block stamps the source frame.

Journal diameters in inches at the finished size. The fit is the ISO 286 class with its deviations from nominal; the bore in millimetres is the bearing bore the journal is sized to.

Inches. Overhang is impeller end to the inboard bearing centre; span is centre to centre of the bearings. est. marks a value that is estimated by ANSI analogy; confirm against your shaft. The nose thread is representative, not an OEM dimension.

Goulds models that mount the 3196 power end and ship the same shaft. Each row is dimensionally identical to the 3196 frame it names.

Reading the frame off the bearings

6207/7306 is the ST, 6309/7309 is the MT, 6311/7310 is the LT, 6313/7313 is the XLT or X17. XLT and X17 share a pair; the seal/sleeve seat separates them. The inboard radial bearing is a single-row deep-groove type; the outboard thrust bearing is an angular-contact type with a double-row alternative of the same bore, so a double-row number on the old bearing does not change the shaft.

What is representative, what is estimated

Every value in the first table and every unmarked value in the second is from the Goulds tables. The impeller-nose thread is representative. The X17 coupling diameter and key, bearing span and overhang are estimated by ANSI analogy; confirm against your shaft; the part page shows the same values as configurable starting points.

Frequently Asked Questions

6309 radial inboard on a 45 mm (1.7720″) journal and 7309 angular-contact thrust outboard on a 45 mm (1.7720″) journal, both at the k5 bearing-seat fit (+.0005 / +.0001). Seal/sleeve seat 1.500″, coupling 1.125″ with a 1/4 SQ key, bearing span 6.750″, overhang 8.375″.
Bearing span 6.875″ between the 6311 and 7310 bearing centres, and 8.375″ overhang from the impeller end to the inboard bearing centre, from the Construction Details in the Goulds brochure. The journals are 2.1657″ (55 mm) inboard and 1.9688″ (50 mm) outboard.
Yes. Goulds 3796 STi is the ST shaft, Goulds 3796 MTi is the MT shaft, Goulds 3796 LTi is the LT shaft, Goulds 3996 ST is the ST shaft, Goulds 3996 MT is the MT shaft: same journals, bearings, sleeve seat, coupling, span and overhang. Goulds ships one shaft for the 3196 and 3796 power end and states that all 3996 parts except the casing interchange with the 3196. Goulds lists the double-row thrust bearing as standard on the 3796 and 3996; it shares the bore and journal with the angular-contact bearing shown, so the shaft is identical either way.
Both run 6313/7313 on 65 mm journals. They differ in the seal/sleeve seat 2.000″ (XLT) vs 2.250″ (X17); measure that. The X17 overhang, span and coupling in the table are estimated by ANSI analogy; confirm against your shaft, so they are not used to separate the two.

These references are for specifying a part; every value here is one the configurator applies when you build one. Numbers are representative of the standard; check them against your part and its mating components before ordering. See all guides on the guides page.
